Determining benchmarks in hearing preservation surgery for vestibular schwannoma.
Objectives The objectives of this study were to determine minimal benchmarks of success in vestibular schwannoma hearing preservation surgery, wherein the likelihood of having preserved hearing in a single patient is at least as likely as having created a poor facial nerve outcome for a single patient. Design This is a statistical analysis of published literature. Setting Academic Tertiary Medi...
متن کاملLong-term hearing preservation in vestibular schwannoma.
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to evaluate the long-term hearing during "wait and scan" management of vestibular schwannomas. SUBJECTS During a 33-year period, from 1976 to 2008, 1,144 patients with vestibular schwannoma were allocated to observation by the wait and scan policy, with annual magnetic resonance imaging and audiologic examination. Two complete pure-tone and speech di...
متن کاملHearing preservation in 2.7 cm vestibular schwannoma.
Hearing preservation is exceedingly difficult in vestibular schwannoma surgery, especially with increasing tumor size. We herein report a case of hearing preservation in a 2.7 cm vestibular schwannoma, where the patient maintained her pre-operative hearing threshold of 55 dB till a year after surgery. Hence, it appears that an attempt at hearing preservation is worth pursuing.
متن کاملSystematic Review of Hearing Preservation After Radiotherapy for Vestibular Schwannoma.
OBJECTIVE To determine the long-term hearing preservation rate for spontaneous vestibular schwannoma treated by primary radiotherapy. DATA SOURCES The MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Reviews, and EMBASE databases were searched using a comprehensive Boolean keyword search developed in conjunction with a scientific librarian. English language papers published from 2000 to 2016 were eva...

Background: The present study aims to report the results and the prognostic and technical factors for hearing preservation during removal of vestibular schwannoma by a retrosigmoid approach. Methods: this was a retrospective study conducting on the 286 vestibular showannomas removal surgeries using retrosigmoid approach during October 2007 to 2011.Preoperative and postoperative clinical, audiom...
